“We have much to hope from the flowers.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle.

Endlessly beautiful, enchanting and inspiring. Month after month, year after year, flowers offer joy and a welcome distraction from the everyday grinds. From snowdrops in January to tulips in May, to the wildflowers in summer, their dependability is a testament and the embodiment of the age-old saying: ‘Life goes on’.

It is now widely recognised that the benefits of nature and wildlife to mental health and well-being are invaluable. It is not uncommon for walks in nature to be prescribed for improving mental and physical health.

And the best part? It is free. You don’t have to own a large garden or live next to a wildflower meadow. Our little beacons of hope can be found anywhere… a park, the routine dog walk, even bang in the city centre.

In our increasingly hectic world, it is important to slow down now and again, take a moment and observe, inhale and sit among and feel better to be In The Company of Flowers.

In The Company of Flowers is an exciting, first-time duet of friends, contemporaries, and lifelong painters and flower enthusiasts, Jenny Matthews and Ann Oram RSW.

The exhibition will be running from 4 August until 3 September at Union Gallery.
