Thackeray Gallery

This group of paintings reflected the ordinary landscape of Scotland. There are no heroic mountains or lochs; the views are what I see most days and know very well.

The meadows and fields are to be found in Fife (where I used to live), but also in the Scottish Borders where we moved to. The flowers and field edges are from a walled garden and farm, in Fife. A very favourite location.

The seasons are reflected in this collection of paintings; from the height of summer with its abundance and glorious colour to the depth of winter. Here the dark skies, snow and bare trees make for a startling subject matter. There can be some clarity and simplicity in winter, which I love. Almost as much as I love a fallow field or a profusion of wildflowers on a country walk.

In addition to the landscapes, I have painted a group of colourful still life. Of course, flowers predominate here, as do my collection of jugs, vases and plates! Wintertime and colourful still life, go together in Scotland.
